May is Mental Health Awareness Month, and this year, the spotlight is on movement—a simple but such a powerful practice for nurturing both our bodies and our minds.
I’ve been there, battling depression and feeling isolated despite being surrounded by loved ones. But through my journey, I discovered how movement can be so beneficial to my mental state. Whether it’s a brisk walk in the park or hitting the gym, incorporating movement into my daily routine has been such an important factor and way to help me find balance in both my life and business.
Now, I’m not saying you need to run a marathon every day, but to have an intention to be aware of our bodies and understand how even small changes in our habits and actions can have a huge impact on our overall well-being.
Here’s why movement matters and how it can change your life for the better:
Releasing Stagnant Energy
Have you ever experienced the amazing effect of a yoga session or how great you feel even after a leisurely stroll outdoors? Movement is a great way to release stagnant energy, leaving us feeling refreshed and revitalised.
Fuelling Success
Believe it or not, prioritising movement contributes to success in unexpected ways:
– Builds Strength – Physical activity strengthens our bodies, helping us to tackle challenges with resilience.
– Honours Self-Promises – By committing to regular movement, we honour promises we make to ourselves, helping us build self-trust and confidence.
– Improves Sleep – Making sure that we engage in physical activity promotes better sleep quality, as well as improving our overall well-being and productivity when we are awake!
– Reduces Stress – Movement helps us unwind and release that built up tension from throughout the day, so by moving we’re enabling a natural stress reliever.
– Boosts Energy Levels – Rather than draining our energy, movement actually revitalises us, leaving us feeling energised and motivated. This also helps with our productivity and focus!
– Regulates Hormones – Regular exercise supports hormonal balance, promoting great physical and mental health.
Prioritising movement isn’t just about physical fitness and looking great —it’s about protecting and improving our mental well-being which in turn has huge benefits for our output in our lives and our businesses.
Setting Intentions for Self-Care
This week, I encourage you to prioritise your well-being by incorporating movement into your routine, here are just a few examples:
– Take a 15-minute walk at lunch – Step outside, soak up some sunshine, and enjoy a brief moment of peace. Use this to really be present in the moment.
– Enjoy a yoga session – Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced yogi, take some time to stretch and connect with your body.
– Meditate – Set aside a few minutes each day to quiet your mind, breathe deeply, and start to find that inner peace.
– Cook a nourishing meal – Fuel your body with wholesome, nutritious foods that support your overall health.
– Have a family movie night – Spend quality time with loved ones, unwind, and indulge in some well-deserved relaxation. It doesn’t have to be work 24/7, it’s all about balance!
– Hit the gym – Break a sweat, challenge yourself, and get that amazing feeling of accomplishment.
– Journal your thoughts – Reflect on your experiences, express gratitude, and set intentions for the days ahead.
What’s your daily intention for self-care this week? I’d love to hear from you!
